The Patriot
Often we see Men of Power and influence with a similar dress style; The Patriot.
The style itself is easy to create and to recognize; a blue plain or micro weave patterned suit combined with a whiter than white dress shirt or a very light blue dress shirt finished with a red tie.
The first person I saw using this combination was JFK during the elections in the 60’s. There was a need for a trustworthy powerful leader and that is what this style stands for.
The blue colored suit gives you a frame that radiates trust – it is advised to use a plain or micro patterned weave so the silhouette is the main factor of recognition on this part. Blue is a color highly depending on the tone. To be safe midnight blue is the color for all skin tones and occasions. As a general rule we can say that the darker the blue the more formal the look is.
The white shirt displays cleanliness and due to the contrast it enhances the blue. Strongly advised is to have your shirt made of Egyptian cotton in an Oxford weave. This makes the shirt lightweight, you do not want to have transpiration stains, and the Oxford weave makes sure you cannot look trough displaying under wear.
The finishing touch is the tie. Wearing tie shows you consider the one who perceives you as a serious candidate and by that the human need of being recognized is served. We choose a red tie since it clearly stands out on the white shirt and by that it becomes stronger. Red is the color of power and that is a quality of a leader. A plain red tie is always good, while a polka dot tie gives you a more classic association and a paisley motive, a more personal touch. The brighter the red color the more aggressive your look becomes. So try several ones while wearing your suit and shirt.
Also a pocket square might be worn to emphasize you are a gentleman.
